Helsinki Päivä ( Helsinki Day) is a local festival on June 12.At first, it was created to celebrate the day when the city of Helsinki was built.Over 60 years past, the festival gains its popularity and grows its meaning. It is a carnival of Helsinki citizens more than the city of Helsinki as citizens make city livable and vital.

On that day, there are thousands of free-of-charge events going on ,organized by the municipality, organizations, companies, clubs or any active residents as if you send your proposal to the event' producer. Events are quite diverse, covering concerts, museum exhibitions, sports competitions and etc. Wandering around the city, just directly enter into any open door, you will find something special and waiting for you to discover.

So make a specific plan for that day. It is pity that not all events are post on the official websites. However, my plan is already full enough to fill in the whole daytime.

Here comes my thoughts after my active participation of Helsinki day. Personally speaking, the aim of creating a festival is to remember or remind people of something important and never be forgotten. If people do not treat the festival with active involvement or passion, the festival is losing its original meaning. In Helsinki, I see people join the events energetically and burn their passion. As a foreign person, I didn't fell a little bit segregated for the carnival and I was warmly welcome by the local. Never time I fell I love the city so much. I want to touch the city deeply with my heart. After the day, I know the impulse of the city is still robust. No matter your are finns or expats living in Finland, please remember the day of June 12th is your festival.
